TRAVEL MAINLAND CHINAXinjiang
Snow peaks, grasslands, deserts and ancient Silk Road cities — one loop across China's most far-flung, breathtaking frontier.
Destinations
Xinjiang
From Kanas Lake and the Nalati grasslands in the north to the old city of Kashgar and the Taklamakan Desert in the south, Xinjiang folds snow peaks, lakes, grasslands, canyons, poplar forests and oasis towns into a single loop. As the heart of the ancient Silk Road and home to Uyghur, Kazakh and Kyrgyz communities, its nature and culture are equally vast — one journey across this land, which covers one-sixth of China.
Ask about this destination ↗- Good for
- Made for lovers of wide-open landscapes, photography and Silk Road culture — plus active families and seniors; the route involves long drives, so assess your stamina and comfort with long-distance travel before booking.
- Suggested days
- 8–10 days for a Northern Xinjiang loop; 12–15 days for a full north–south panorama (including round-trip travel). Short on time? Northern Xinjiang alone offers the highest scenery density.
- Best season
- Best in spring and autumn: fresh green grasslands, Ili apricot blossoms and lavender from Apr–Jun; golden poplar forests and Kanas autumn colors in Sep–Oct. Jul–Aug is peak season — cooler but busier; winter brings snow and skiing to the north.
- Transport
- Air-conditioned coach or 4WD throughout with airport/station transfers; daily drive times are kept reasonable with rest stops along the long north–south loop; we can help book internal flights (e.g., Urumqi–Kashgar) to save time.
- Budget advice
- Beyond the tour fare, reserve extra budget for local meals, souvenirs, scenic-area shuttles and optional activities (horse riding, boat trips); prices vary widely across Xinjiang, so a flexible 10–20% buffer is advisable.
